A project connecting IoT, art, learning and climate change
Funded by the British Council and developed in a residency at the Digital Arts Centre Taipei in 2019, “Selected Ambient Air” was a collaborative project with artist, Chi Po Hao.
The project connected environment, technology, and arts by developing an environmental monitoring network and sonification practices. It enables participants to learn about open data, basic electronic circuits and microcontrollers in the methods of “making” and “playing” by applying creative technologies to connect to the Internet, explore data, activate music, and bridge the gap between creative communication and social interaction amongst people.
In two weeks we ran workshops with schoolteachers to provide training and develop classroom activities, we ran a workshop with university students to develop their own custom sonification algorithms with global weather data and engaged a wide community of artists in the city of Taipei to co-create an IoT sensor network that measure pollution and created a live 24 hour data sonification of the citys weather.
